You have a Macintosh. Why would you do it the hard way? Everything is easier on a Mac

Go to System Preferences -> International -> Input Menu

Click the checkbox next to Keyboard Viewer. Make sure "Show input menu is selected in the menu bar (which are automatically selected when you made the first selection). Close the System Preferences.

Depending on the selected language is an indicator in the menu bar. Now, whenever you want, enter a special character, click on the flag in the menu bar and choose Show Keyboard Viewer. When you point the Shift key and select the keyboard on the screen saying that the additional effect of K, that the nature of . No need to get a list of the Alt-# # # # code on a piece of paper near your computer.

♥ To the heart icon on the Mac build
(Wow, a little more complicated with a Mac something - not really)

Click on Edit, then special characters. Or just hold down the option, the command and T.

Find the heart icon and click Paste.
